iDC SYSTEM ONE - A Forward-Thinking Camera Platform

iDC SYSTEM ONE is a modular and versatile HD Camera Support System designed for filmmakers who understand the value of a well designed tripod-based camera system. SYSTEM ONE's designer - Director / Cameraman Bruce Dorn - knows from long experience that nothing beats the smooth pans and tilts that only a proper fluid head can produce. See our list of compatible cameras

SYSTME ONE

Convinced that traditional rod-based camera platforms suffer from inherent design flaws, Bruce started with a clean sheet of paper when creating SYSTEM ONE.

The result is an finely-tailored and elegant HD filmmaking platform that boasts camera-specific fitment, a very low center-of-gravity, minimal mass, perfect primary balance, almost infinite adjustability, proud Made-in-America quality, and industry-shocking affordability. Easily upgraded with tightly-tailored and modular iDC Camera Plates, SYSTEM ONE is effectively "obsolescence proof".

Sharing a number of modular components with it's handheld sibling, SYSTEM ZERO, SYSTEM ONE is the prefect solution when a tripod is available.

Available in either Geared or Gearless Direct Drive Focusing Options

"Look Ma, No Gears!" iDC SYSTEM ZERO introduced our award-winning Gearless Follow Focus design in early 2009. Our time-honored Gearless Direct Drive wheel is machined from industrial plastic bearing material and features a soft high-tech O-Ring for positive rubber-on-rubber operation. With no gear rings to buy, this unique gearless follow focus not only makes changing your lens a snap, it also keeps more of your hard-earned dollars in your pocket, where they belong.

Although iDC is the reigning champion of Gearless Direct Drive focusing systems, some lenses are equipped with focusing helicoids that are simply too stiff for our Gearless Direct Drive technology. For these lenses, a direct gear-on-gear mechanical connection is highly desirable. Problem solved: iDC's unique Geared Direct Drive Focusing Wheel is machined from self-lubricating bearing material, and features our proven and ergonomically superior 45° focusing wheel angle. Our unique and minimalist bevel drive design (patent pending) completely eliminates the traditional follow focus gearbox to allow lenses with super stiff helicoid designs (Zeiss ZE/ZF and Leica R Lenses, for example) to focus smoothly and repeatedly with no backlash.

You'll need to add a .8 pitch lens gear ring to each of your lenses (A universal gear ring is included with all Geared Kits). If you need additional gear rings, check our Accessories category for an affordable, universal lens gear ring that we recommend. And true to our philosophy of easy upgrades and component compatibility, the Geared Wheel Assembly is completely interchangeable with our Gearless Wheel Assembly.

By eliminating the need for a gearbox altogether – every one of the iDC Geared and Gearless SYSTEM ONE kits represent the most elegant and easy to use follow focus options on the market.

"Tripod-Ready" for Perfect Balance and an Extra Low Center-of-Gravity

The unique iDC UniRail features a double-dovetail design. To achieve the lowest possible center-of-gravity, the UniRail's lower dovetail is compatible for direct fitment into many popular tripod head quick-release clamps.

Direct fitment means that no quick-release plate is required and that the UniRail can be longitudinally positioned for perfect primary balance with any camera, lens, and accessory configuration. This is a huge and very practical advantage that is unique to SYSTEM ONE.

If you use a different fluid head than those listed above, no worries - all iDC UniRails feature a centralized QR Base Pad that offer both 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threaded bosses.

Direct Compatibility

The UniRail is directly compatible with these fluid heads (No Quick-Release Plate needed):

Gitzo 1380, 2180, 2380
Manfrotto 501HDV, 503, 503HDV, 504HD, 509HD, 519, 701HDV, MH055M8-Q5, MVH502A, MVH502AH
Sachtler Ace (Mid Level Spreader), Ace (On-Ground Spreader), DV-1, FSB 2, FSB-4, FSB 6, FSB 8, Cine Dslr

Less is More!

Newtons First Law of Inertia, essentially stating that things at rest tend to stay at rest and things in motion tend to stay in motion, makes it obvious that excessive mass is the enemy of smooth pans and tilts. Built upon your choice of 6", 9", 12", or 16" double-dovetail UniRails, SYSTEM ONE is very low in mass and can be configured to be as small and tidy as your lens selection dictates. A SYSTEM ONE Master Kit offers all four UniRail lengths in one well-equipped package. Make your kit perfect for the job, every single time...

SYSTEM ONE

Broad Lens Compatibility with Simple and Intuitive Lens Changes

And nothing could be simpler! Just slide the focusing wheel away your focusing ring, swap your lens, reposition the focusing wheel to the new focus ring position, make snug contact between the two and tighten the locking thumbscrew. It's that simple! You'll be hard pressed to find a lens that's not compatible.

SYSTEM ONE's high degree of modularity ensures that this kit will be relevant for years to come. With minimal mass and exceptional utility, either of the Geared and Gearless follow focus rigs are perfect for still photography and cinema-style motion capture – anytime, anywhere.

SYSTEM ONE

Compact, Lightweight, and Forward Compatible.

No generic fitment here! Each camera body has its own dedicated camera plate with pin or contour registration to maintain perfect fitment. The purchase of additional dedicated camera plates will allow the system to support a variety of camera styles and brands. SYSTEM ONE is simple, compact, and a delight to use. Supporting a broad range of large and small camera forms, SYSTEM ONE is easily the most sleek and well-conceived platform ever offered for filmmaking.

Cross-SYSTEM Compatibility

iDC's tripod-friendly SYSTEM ONE shares many modular components with its handheld sibling, SYSTEM ZERO. As your filmmaking style evolves - and your needs change – so can your kit. No need to start from scratch with the beautifully designed and modular systems from iDC PHOTO VIDEO.

SYSTEM ONE

An Extensive Range of Lightweight and Modular Accessories

Need to add audio accessories or video lights? iDC also offers a nice selection of Grip Handles, Accessory Mounting Brackets, Quick-Release Clamps, and Accessory Mounting Dovetails for real-world production speed and efficiency. All accessories attach to the UniRail's Arca-Swiss-style upper dovetail and may be quickly located anywhere along the length of the UniRail. Unlike the many rod-based systems that require a lengthly and frustrating process to reconfigure, SYSTEM ONE's accessories feature a top-loading quick-release clamp that makes the process quick and painless.

Those who prefer a beefy Accessory Cage configuration for mounting their various camera accessories can dock SYSTEM ONE into iDC's very popular Quick Release U-Boat Video Cage. This is a great way to go if one regularly shoots sync-sound, but enjoys the luxury of undocking an unencumbered camera for a bit of spontaneous MOS B-Roll on a monopod.
