Pulling Focus with the iDC Follow-Focus XL
At last! A new blog posting. Lots going on around here, including a catastrophic couple of weeks after lightning struck just outside our studio. The massive electrical pulse wiped out several high-dollar surge protectors, toasted a brand-new Mac tower, and wreaked havoc on one of our RAiD arrays. Big Fun!
I''ve had a pre-release version of the Canon 7D for some time now and have completed fitment for all the iDC HD accessories. A unique 'L" bracket was required to fit the Hoodman but once I nailed that, all the other goodies fit like a dream. What a cool little camera! I'll share footage from that unit very soon...
I also acquired a Nikon D300s and although my fingers burned a little every time I touched it I managed to get it outfitted as well. Two specialized parts were required but now the iDC Viewfinder, Follow-Focus, and the QR U-Boat will accommodate this little Nikon as well.
Both systems are in final production and i should be ready to ship within two weeks, max...
While all that was happening, I was back at the rodeo working on my long-term documentary project.
I had our new iDC Follow-Focus XL and my favorite zoom, the 70-200mm f2.8 IS. I shot from sticks and hand held and concentrated on demonstrating the advantages of shallow depth-of-field and nicely controlled focus racks. If I had an assistant things would have been a snap but even working solo I got lots of cool footage of both static and energetic subject matter.
