NAB is just around the corner…
And that means all kinds of cool new video stuff to investigate!
The National Association of Broadcasters will hold its convention in Las Vegas from April 11th to April 17th. If it’s anything like last year this will be an amazing show. The scale of this event dwarfs any still shooters' convention that I have attended and there is cool stuff to look at wherever you turn. I'll be there with eyes peeled...
Last year both Sony and Canon had elaborately constructed “screen test” environments for the soul purpose of demonstrating their latest video rigs. Dozens of cameras lined side-by-side all offered any attendee the opportunity to play and test to their heart’s content. Even the sets were impressive and I can’t wait to get back!
I’ll be at the show to assist my buddies from the lighting company, F. J. Westcott. As you probably know from visiting our web store, there are several Bruce Dorn Select lighting products in Westcott’s line-up. I'll be there to help get the word out among the videographers and cinematographers in attendance.
I just might have something interesting up my sleeve as well. More to come on that topic later but rest assured I’m always trying to come up with more Available Magic. This idea really goes the distance…
I’ll also be visiting with some new players at Canon. CMOS sensors have come to video capture and the imagery we can now create is astonishing in its quality. Learning the tricks of the video trade takes a bit of study but I’m a long-time student. I’ve had more years behind the eyepiece of a movie camera than an SLR and I’m starting to migrate back the longer form again. Hopefully I’ll soon be in a position to share some hard-won expertise with both Canon and Canon users. Either way, I intend to jump in the deep end again and will report on my adventures right here. A full (okay, partial) report as soon as I get to the convention floor…
I'll be searching for compact daylight-balanced continuous sources and tricky bits of clever grip-ology.
Yum!
